[R] Installation 2.7.1 [requires Perl >= 5.8.0]

Perl 5.8.0 is already 6 years ago.  It is a requirement of R >= 2.6.0, and 
documented in the 'R Installation and Administration' manual.

You can't expect Open Source software to support an OS that is more than 6 
years' old (especially as you have not told us what it is).  You are 
likely to find other components are also too old.
