[R] need help building R on SGI

I think I've got it.  Luke Tierney suggested that it might
be my shell that's seg-faulting, and maybe it was.  I had to
specify a different shell for R-1.3.0 because /bin/sh on
our machines isn't a Bourne shell, and that made problems for
me.  But that was then, and this is now, and /bin/sh works
fine.
