Hi,
Although I am not sure how many students subscribe to r-help, I suspect that
some of the students of the professors on the list might be interested in the
following summer internship opportunity.

Summer Internship Opportunity at Geode Capital Management
Geode Capital Management has one or two openings for 12 week summer
internships. We seek students who are interested in working at the intersection
of computer science, statistics and finance. If these are your interests, then
there is no better internship in Boston. We offer a casual work environment and
powerful computing resources. We work mostly in a UNIX environment; our main
programming tools are Perl (www.perl.org) and S+ (www.splus.com). [FYI, there
is an open-source version of S+ called R (www.r-project.org).]
We are looking for skilled programmers with an interest in trying to predict
the future. If you are curious; if you are technically skilled; if you are
interested in working with large databases; if you think that searching for
patterns might be fun; if you have the drive to complete difficult projects; if
you enjoy observing the world of finance; if all (or at least most!) of these
things are true, then we would like to hire you.
To apply, please send an e-mail to david.d.kane at fmr.com. Describe your
technical background (5 on the Computer Science AP exam; administrator of your
own Linux cluster; created a web server (in assembly!) for your intramural
basketball team; whatever) in some detail. A resume is fine but not
required. We are especially interested in students in the Boston area. We hope
that these internships will evolve into multi-year relationships.
