Yes, although I didn't but there are rpms available at:

http://lib.stat.cmu.edu/R/CRAN/bin/linux/suse/6.2/RPMS/i386/base/

ps. I compiled R-0.65.0 in SuSE 6.1, but there are also rpms available.
