[R-pkg-devel] DOI in Description (possibly) invalid

A CRAN reviewer requested I add a reference to the Description field, suggesting the format <doi:...>. This results in checks reporting "Found the following (possibly) invalid DOIs:... Service unavailable". I can't see anything wrong with <doi:10.1111/j.0030-1299.2004.13043.x> (see also https://github.com/MurrayEfford/ipsecr).

I dimly remember some recent discussion on this, but cannot now find it. Thanks for any help.
