[R] lattice: ticks at the joining sides of panels?

 Dear R users,

I would like to produce a lattice graph that keeps the ticks at the joining sides of the panels.
For example:

library(lattice)
library(datasets)
xyplot(lat ~ long | cut(depth, 2), data = quakes, between=list(x=1))

You can see that ticks are plotted at the sides 1 (bottom), 2 (right) and 3 (top) of panel 1
and 1 (bottom), 3 (top) and 4 (right) of panel 2. Is it possible to plot ticks at side
4 (right) of panel 1 and side 2 (left) of panel 2?
