[R] just a small variable-naming question

In case the OP wanted to append columns, rather than rename existing 
columns:

cbind(myData, var1=NA, var2=NA, var3=NA)
   col1 col2 col3 var1 var2 var3
1    1    2    3   NA   NA   NA
2    2    3    4   NA   NA   NA
3    3    4    5   NA   NA   NA
