[R] Installing rgl

You may be missing some openGL libraries (mesa ? )
On Ubuntu, this solved my problem of installing rgl:
sudo apt-get build-dep r-cran-rgl

Can't vouch for any future complications with rendering in other
applications...so as always, use at your own risk.
