Depends on what you mean by "smooth".

bwplot(voice.part ~ height, data=singer, xlab="Height (inches)",
       panel = function(...) {
           panel.bwplot(...)
           panel.average(..., fun = median, col.line = "darkgrey")
       })

Something more smooth is also possible, but will be misleading.
