ACK! Terribly sorry about the double post- but I forgot to close the quote.
It should be:

alltime[grep("MIDDLE EAR EXPLORE",alltime[[ "CPT Desc" ]] ]


Maybe I should wait until AFTER my morning coffee to browse R-help...
