[R] initialising trellis device {lattice}/ postscript

Colleagues

I am using:
trellis.device(postscript, file="../figures/name.ps")
.....code to generate the trellis display here ....
graphics.off()

to create a postscript from a working xyplot display.

The problem is that the postscript file appears to be blank

I haven't done anything fancy to modify the defaults. Does anyone have a
suggestion as to what might be wrong?
