[R] plot question

dear list:

in the following plot:

plot(rnorm(10),rnorm(10),xlab="year",ylab=expression
(paste('M x'*10^{3},)),font.lab=2)

font.lab=2, but xlab and ylab are different. I want 
both labels in the same way. help?
