Spam on the list [Was: Re: [R] Urgent ...]

I think that R-news uses a spam filter already now: the level of spam is very
low, at least at the same level as attained wit Spam Assassin. Most of the spam
is incredibly stupid and gets caught by simple minded, static filter like the
Spam Assassin, but not all. Some people run their Spam through Spam Assassin and
change it slightly so that it passes the filter. Happily they are still in
minority. If R wishes to introduce a better spam filtering than now, it should
try something more clever, like Eric Raymond's learning Bayesian spam filter
( Actually, R list could have this
filter just for the joy of having a Bayesian spam filter. Preferably, that could
use R engine and perhaps one of the two alternative SOM implementations (GeneSOM
package, SOM in MASS) could be made to serve as a learning spam filter.
