I don't think R-help collectively gave you instructions. Credit where
credit is due (and ditto for blame), please.

The same as before. Did you actually try
make test
? Do try it and see what you can learn from it.

A very strange place to put it: /usr/local/lib is the conventional place
for third-party libraries.
