[R] Axis labels

Dear all

I have a problem with assigning my own labels to the axis of a plot.
I want to substitute the given labels e.g. 1,2,3,... with a vector of values
and strings e.g. "12.23", "1.34", "245,5", "Result". 

B.t.w. how do I rotate these labels so they don't overlap???? 

I want to use the image function to plot.
