No idea. The algorithm was directly hitched from Mardia, Kent & Bibby. I
even refused to check the algorithm against Schönemann to avoid
discomfort, and I would do my best to avoid reading Gower.  It seems to
do what it needs to do for my purposes, but of course I would be happy
if somebody checks the function.
