Passing parameters to R command line (was "RE: [R] embedding R?")

This has been working (in some way) for many months now:

 % R --vanilla --quiet   bli bla blo
 ARGUMENT 'bli' __ignored__
 ARGUMENT 'bla' __ignored__
 ARGUMENT 'blo' __ignored__

 > commandArgs()
 [1] "/u/maechler/R/r-release/Linux-inst/bin/R.bin"
 [2] "--vanilla"                                   
 [3] "--quiet"                                     
 [4] "bli"                                         
 [5] "bla"                                         
 [6] "blo"
