[R] R-1.0.0 and Alpha-linux (RH 6.1)

The release compiles and installs cleanly, but aborts with the message,
Floating point exception.  Before I start messing with the debugger, has
anyone gotten R to run on an Alpha-linux, Red Hat 6.1?
