Actually, the function install.packages() in R itself (which is a
wrapper to the R INSTALL mechanism) is probably even easier especially
if you are connected to the internet, as it downloads the packages
automatically from CRAN and installs them. This function (and friends
like update.packages()) made Doug Bates stop building contrib .deb's :-)
