Over the past year I have been working on a Web interface to R, Rweb.
Anyone that is interested in trying it out can point their browser at:
http://www.math.montana.edu/Rweb
The main Rweb page provides access to three versions of Rweb. A simple text
entry form that returns output and graphs, a more sophisticated Javascript
version that provides a multiple window environment, and a set of point and
click modules that are useful for introductory statistics courses and
require no knowledge of the R language. All of the Rweb versions can
analyze Web accessible datasets if a URL is provided.
A paper on Rweb will (hopefully) appear soon in the Journal of Statistical
Software (http://www.stat.ucla.edu/journals/jss/). The paper provides a
detailed explanation of the different versions of Rweb and an overview of
how Rweb works.
All of the source code for Rweb (mostly Perl scripts) is available at:
http://www.math.montana.edu/Rweb/Resources.html
We have used Rweb in most of our introductory statistics courses, and a few
advanced courses, with great success. It has significantly reduced the
problems we used to have in the computer labs.
Any comments, suggestions, questions, or criticisms are welcome.
