I guess I missed the "pretty" on my first pass through. Since you
don't end up with "nice" cell endpoints anyway, why not just compute a
binwidth (e.g. h.scott or bw.scott) and supply this as the default "h"
argument, leaving the user the option of specifying an exact number of
cells. If you jack things up right you could use the same bandwidth
function for both "density" and "hist".
