*Postdoc in Bioinformatics (#RKPD01)*
The Institute of Molecular Biology gGmbH funded by the Boehringer
Ingelheim Foundation is recruiting a Postdoc in Bioinformatics (#RKPD01)
The Institute of Molecular Biology gGmbH (IMB) is a Centre of Excellence
for Life Sciences, funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, and
located within the campus of the Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz,
Germany.
Applications are invited for a postdoc position in the laboratory of Dr.
René Ketting. The successful applicant will contribute to
internationally competitive research in the field of small-RNA biology
with a particular focus on the effects of small RNAs on chromatin. Our
group employs genetics and genome-wide techniques such as RNA-seq and
ChIPseq to unravel the effects of small RNAs in vivo. An important aim
of the work will be the development and application of bioinformatics
tools that enable us to discover and decipher small-RNA-mediated
regulatory mechanisms.
You will:
- Study the mechanisms of small-RNA mediated silencing processes
- Analyse and interpret genome-wide datasets for solving complex
biological questions
- Work in close cooperation with experimental researchers
- Have access to all IMB core facilities including bioinformatics support
- Collaborate with internal and external partners
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology or
related areas
- Experience in analyzing high-throughput genomics datasets such as
RNA-seq or ChIP-seq,
- General programming skills
- Familiarity with analytic tools such as R or Matlab will be a plus
- General biological background knowledge
We offer:
- A stimulating, diverse and international research environment
- Working as part of a nice and motivated team
- The possibility to work with first-hand state-of-the-art datasets
- Advanced training opportunities
Starting date: 1 Juli 2014 or later
Duration: Initially 2 years; option of further extension.
To apply, please send a single PDF file containing your cover letter
stating research and career interests, your CV, contact addresses of at
least two referees and certificates of your degrees to
personnel at imb-mainz.de.
Informal enquires should be addressed to Dr. René Ketting
